So, it's October 17 and I haven't posted since September 30. But, come on, I've got to get to the grocery store. Who the heck has the time to BLOG?? Plus, reading other people's blogs (well, at least skimming) lets me know that mine would stink anyway, so what's the point? I'm so apathetic about it, it almost hurts. Yet, I press on. :)
Kathryn went down to Graceville this past weekend (and part of the week) to see parents and grandparents and other close family. The best thing about it? She brought me back some of the best chicken salad I think I've ever had. (Well, truthfully, the best thing about it was that she came back!)
Job applications are on the chopping block once again...along with my career. We'll see what happens this year. I have a very good idea why I've been kept here in Athens til now, but the thing is you don't really know things like that until after the fact, which doesn't really help the attitude now about the unknown future. Well, I suppose it should help the attitude, since you can see that in the past God has been good to you, so you can reason comfortably that in the future this will also be the case. What it doesn't give is the requisite answer to the "Why?" questions or a sense of certainty about your circumstances. But the same attitude of trust should remain, along with a sense of peace. Unfortunately, both of these are sinfully difficult to come by on a regular basis.
The Belgian style abbey ale has been put into the secondary fermenter and is holding steady in my room. It overshot the alcohol content by nearly 2% ABV, which is not good for the flavor balance, but I think it will mellow out nicely given enough time. Now to find some labels for the bottles...
Given the immanent threat of water shortage here in NE Georgia, for the first time the other day I cut the water off during soap-up and shampoo time in the shower. Not sure if it will help, but it didn't really hurt that much. It was just kinda weird.
"Dexter" is an amazing show (on Showtime). I don't think I've ever rooted for the serial killer before. It's interesting how the writers are threatening Dexter's being uncovered as a mass murderer working for the Miami police. It is not primarily through non-personal means (say, Dexter's underwater grave of bodies that he would dump, and the FBI agent who is hunting down its source) but through those to whom he is the closest, namely his girlfriend. It is there that he is most in danger--the closer he gets to her, the more she demands that he open up. The closer he gets, the more he wants to open up. But he can't; I mean, he's a serial killer, for crying out loud. So he has to invent alternative explanations for his behavior. He has to divert the attention away from the truth about himself towards a lie, a mask behind which he hides. There are interesting twists to the diversions, to how close some people really do get to the truth (without knowing it), and to his self-doubt. But I wonder how many more seasons he can keep running.
